TOKYO -- Fast Retailing CEO Tadashi Yanai hopes the recent decision to raise wages by up to 40% helps Uniqlo and the company's other retailers break a staid status quo, he told Nikkei on Friday.

Uniqlo to train managers abroad

Fast Retailing Co., operator of the Uniqlo casual clothing chain, will set up overseas bases for leadership training in line with its international expansion strategy.

About 200 senior company officials selected from around the world will undergo training.

In a speech on the company's strategy for 2011, Tadashi Yanai, president and chairman of Fast Retailing, told employees the bases will be set up in Shanghai, Singapore, Paris and New York.

One or more are expected to open this year. The company has already opened a center for management training in Tokyo and is offering programs with Hitotsubashi University Graduate School.

It plans to cooperate with local universities and research institutes in operating overseas training facilities.

Fast Retailing aims to record 1 trillion yen ($12.2 billion) in sales each in Japan, China, other Asian countries, the United States and Europe in 10 years.

Yanai has said the company will groom senior managers around the world to achieve high-level performances globally.

太羡慕了!日本知名連鎖品牌UNIQLO的母公司迅銷(Fast Retailing)推出新措施,部分員工可選擇每周放3天假,薪酬維持不變。

每周工作4天相信是不少打工仔的夢想,迅銷由10月起向全國約1萬名UNIQLO員工推出新計劃,只要他們將每日8小時工作改為10小時,就可在薪酬不變的情況下每周返少一日工。

計劃只適用於在國內工作而且無須調職的「地域正社員」,原則上他們要在客人多的周六周日工作,3天假期須在平日放。公司預期計劃會吸引約2000名員工參加,並檢討將計劃擴大至總公司及公司另一服裝品牌GU。

迅銷希望製造一個方便員工照顧家人及育兒的工作環境,留住人材。
