習近平與特朗普週六在日本大阪召開的G20峰會期間舉行會晤，兩人均表示同意恢復貿易談判 。但在一天過後，特朗普及其高級顧問稱，與中國尚無達成協議的時間表 ，雙方之間仍與5月談判破裂時一樣擁有很大分歧。這引發了對特朗普是否太快對中國作出太多讓步的質疑。
